A little while ago I wrote about the new developement around the Umhlanga Ridge New Town Centre area.. I quite like that building with the mansard roof, but after all the comments on that post I’ve kinda grown to see just how badly that building works.
And its not the only one around that area.
I noticed this the other day (or rather my mom did, when she was in the shop, and told me about it).

Its a bit hard to see from outside, but here’s a shot from inside..

Pretty savage right? The woman who runs the store told me that a guy from a glass fitters came in and had a look at it, and apparently the problem was that the glass pane had been installed and fixed simply with silicone, and they hadn’t put in anything to allow for expansion. She only moved into the building a couple of weeks ago and found that all the direct sunlight coming directly into the room through all the massive glazing made the space unbearably hot so, after being told she wasn’t allowed to but loovers up on the outside of the building (because of all the master planning guidlines) she simply put in huge blinds, screened the windows off and turned the aircon up. Recipe for dissaster? Huge pane of glass: baking hot sun on one side, icy cold on the other. Which is why this happened.

The building looks decent, and the units above must work, but clearly the shop fronts just don’t.

Bleh.

For the past week and half at Varsity my class has been without a studeo. There was a fire sometime over the long weekend. A fire. The whole place was sealed off, and we were told we weren’t allowed in because RMS (campus security) were “investigating”, and that the studio should be operational again in 2 or 3 days. Yeah. Sounds promising.
So yesterday afternoon we were finally allowed in. Here’s the extent of the fire damage.

Made for some pretty awesome photos! But I’m sure we can rule out foul-play.

Really? A week and a half to tell us it was an electrical fire caused by Shepstone’s crappy old wiring? (See it hanging there above the door?) Yeah. Good job guys. You can go back to operating the boom-gate now.
My first (design) hand in for this term was yesterday. The project was an art gallery and professional on Florida Road. We were given a little park just opposite Spiga d’Ora as our site and told to use “femininity” as a basis for our concepts. It was a really fun project to do, and I’m pretty stoked with my building.. Presentations on Monday though, so not too sure how my lecturers will react, but crits have been going well..
Anyway.. Here are some pretty pictures.

Have I mentioned before how much I love Artlantis? Amazing program.

I wrote something new a little while ago and recorded it the other day..
(Thought I’d upload it today, Since its Hiroshima Day.)
I’m pretty happy with it. It’s even got a little Zulu bit in the second verse. Yay!
I’m still not entirely happy with my recording though. I’m still getting major background noise from the PC, but I suppose for rough little demos it’s ok. I tried messing around with overdubbing some extra layers of vocals, but otherwise no extra digital stuff. Just guitar and vocals.
So yeah.. Keen to hear what people think..
